After the death of Queen Elizabeth "The Crown" increases its audience

The series, recorded 17.6 million hours of viewing, according to the company.

Last week, the drama series' producers had reported that they were halting production on the sixth season after news broke of the 96-year-old monarch's death. Queen Elizabeth II's coffin arrived at Buckingham Palace


“As a show of respect, filming of ‘The Crown was suspended today,” the series producers said in a statement to CNN on Friday. “Shooting will also be suspended on the day of the funeral,” scheduled for September 19, they added.

Created by Peter Morgan, ‘The Crown’ swept through the drama categories at last year's Emmy Awards and won the top prize of the night as Best Dramatic Series. Awards were also won by several cast members such as Colman, Josh O’Connor (who played Prince Charles), Tobias Menzies (who played Prince Philip) and Gillian Anderson (who played Margaret Thatcher).


The series, starring Claire Foy and Olivia Colman in the role of Queen Isabel (young and old), recorded 17.6 million hours of viewing, according to the company. These numbers placed it as the seventh most watched English-speaking program of the last week, ahead of the last season of ‘Stranger Things’.
