Ben Affleck has up to two Oscars to his credit, but neither thanks to his talent as an actor. The first was won in 1998 for the script for ‘Good Will Hunting’ and the second for Best Film in 2013 for ‘Argo’. Although this is not a clear case of ‘Oscar victim’, it is a story of comings and goings with success.
Because Ben Affleck the same takes all the criticism as an actor thanks to films like 'Armageddon' or 'Pearl Harbor', but also his passing through the ‘Batman’ saga where he, surely, he made a lot of money but came out pretty badly in his role as an actor and gave him bad reputation.
Winning an Oscar is not always synonymous with success. Many are the actors and actresses who, after taking the grand prize from the Academy, saw their careers begin to go down. Or, at least, they didn't glow as brightly as they thought.
This is the case of Halle Berry who, after winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 2002 for 'Monster' s Ball ', she began to lose presence in Hollywood. The actress made history at the Oscars by becoming the first black woman to win the award in the Best Actress category.
But, years later, everything changed. She got the Razzie Awards for Worst Actress (in 2004 she won it for ‘Catwoman’), and also received bad reviews for her acting and movies, and little box-office success.
Another proper name that saw his career plummet after winning the Oscar is Adrien Brody. His was a more than deserved award in 2003 for ‘The Pianist’ but, since then, little or nothing has been seen of him in Hollywood. The curse maybe? But the New Yorker couldn't find another big role like that.
For many it will be debatable the inclusion of Gwyneth Paltrow in this list since, after her Oscar for Best Actress in 1999 for 'Shakespeare in Love', she has continued to work with some other success. At least, as far as the box-office is concerned.
Perhaps there were those who thought that her career, after winning the Oscar, would turn into a path of roses towards consecration, but nothing could be further from the truth. She has had her setbacks, her successes (she won an Emmy for her participation in Glee), and even his blockbusters on the big screen that have made him earn a lot of money.
The big question is, has she also been a victim of the Oscar curse? Depending on how you look at her. Do you believe in the curse?
