Cameron Diaz reveals the real reason why she quit acting

The actress, who confirmed that she wanted a job that she could do from home 

Playing the surgeon Mary, in the comedy Something About Mary, or rivaling Julia Roberts for the same guy in My Best Friend's Wedding. Cameron Diaz was one of the undisputed faces of Hollywood in the nineties and early two thousand, but her presence was gradually diluted until confirming her retirement from the big screen in 2018 - "I'm semi-retired," she said - and ratifying it in 2021 after her recent maternity.

 

A couple of years ago, the actress joined a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow on the YouTube channel Goop, where she talked about the launch of her new line of vegan wines, called Avaline. Also, Cameron Diaz took advantage of the space to confess the reasons why she decided to quit acting eight years ago.

"When you make a movie... they own you. You're there, 12 hours a day, for months. You don't have time for anything else. And I realized that I gave parts of my life to those people, they took it away from me (...) I basically had to take it all back and take responsibility for my own life," she said.

How does Cameron Diaz feel after quitting Hollywood?


The movie star mentioned that some people probably won't understand her reasons, but that quitting acting allowed her to "be self-sufficient again."

When asked by Gwyneth Paltrow how it felt to leave "a movie career of such magnitude," Cameron Diaz replied, "It was like peace. Peace in my soul because I'm finally taking care of myself."
