Ellen DeGeneres: A look inside her $450M real estate portfolio

Ellen DeGeneres owns $63.3 million in homes — and that hasn’t put a single dent in her earnings from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Learn more here!

Ellen Lee DeGeneres was born January 26, 1958. Is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. She starred in the sitcom Ellen from 1994 to 1998 and has hosted her syndicated television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003, which you can see in HBO Max.

Ellen DeGeneres also began hosting the NBC game show Ellen's Game of Games during the 2017–2018 television season, which is based on games played on her talk show. After a 15-year hiatus from performing stand-up comedy, she appeared in a 2018 Netflix stand-up special, Relatable.

She has won 30 Emmys, 20 People's Choice Awards (more than any other person), and numerous other awards for her work and charitable efforts. In 2016, she even received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama!

But most recently, Ellen DeGeneres has decided to end her daytime talk show, which has faltered in the ratings after allegations of a toxic workplace environment where top producers engaged in a wide range of sexual misconduct with lower-level employees.

Ellen's homes

As we said, the 63-year-old comedian is calling it quits on her show after 17 years. But in that period, she has owned $450 million in houses and made enough profits to cover the cost of her current holdings, Rancho San Leandro and the Dennis Miller house, both in Montecito, California.

She made a tidy $80 million gross profit (not including renovation costs) on the sales, according to property records. Her net profit (profit minus renovation costs) is likely near $65 to $70 million, using Million Acres flip-and-sell profit averages.

How did she make so much money? She sold houses to Adam Levine, Ariana Grande (where she got married with Dalton Gomez!), Ryan Seacrest, Josh Hutcherson, Barry Schwarz (co-founder of Calvin Klein), Tinder founder Sean Rad, the then-Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Will Ferrell and Brian Robbins (the president of Nickelodeon), among others.

But the talk show host doesn’t see herself as a house flipper. She says she loves decorating and even had a two-season home design show in 2015 and 2016. The money she makes is just incidental, she has said.

Currently Ellen DeGeneres owns $63.3 million in homes. Although the comedian and wife Portia de Rossi have called home many properties, a $450 million real estate portfolio, they only own two now, in Montecito, California.

The one that costs $14.3 million has three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, a dining area, a formal library, a gym and a terrace with a fireplace, according to Realtor.com. The Adobe house offers privacy to a single master suite with two bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, a breakfast room, a subterranean wine cellar and a game room.

The other one is around $49 million. The walled-gated property has a guest house, a garage, an infinity pool, a pool house, a barn designed by Tom Kundig, principal and owner of Olson Kundig Architects, and a 9,000-square-foot mansion in the South African Cape Dutch architectural style, according to Dirt.
