Whitney's version was the first single released from the soundtrack of the movie The Bodyguard, where Whitney Houston, who performed the song, made her debut as a film artist. The single was a massive worldwide hit. September 2, 2013.

While it was later Whitney Houston who made the song I Will Always Love You famous by enshrining its meaning, according to Forbes, Dolly Parton earned $10 million in royalties.
